Amrit Sanchar also known as Khanda-ki-Pahul is the Sikh
baptism ceremony. In the year 1699, this ceremony was established when the
religion's tenth Guru, (Guru Gobind Singh), first baptised 5 followers (Sikhs)
of his faith and then was baptised himself by the 5 followers, known as the
Panj Pyare.
It
weighs about 1354 gm, having a blade which is 0.1 inches thick and 5 inches
wide. The handle is 5.4 inches in length, giving enough room for an average
hand. The handle specifically is made of authentic sarh loh.
Khanda made of Sarbh Loh (Iron) is a crucial part of this
ceremony, it is used to in this sacred ritual to prepare the holy water called
Amrit which is later used to baptize people who want to devote their life to
being a true Sikh or Singh.
Amrit
or Holy Water is prepared with help of Khanda by dissolving the Patase (Made of
Sugar) in water in Sarbh Loh Bata or Iron Bowl by Panj Pyare (Baptised Sikhs)
or Singh’s.
Being a sacred object, it has been
crafted using the finest material in order to give off an authentic and real
appearance.
The Khanda handle has a ball at the end which provides a firm
grip for the holders or Baptised Sikhs or Singh’s during Amrit Sanchar.
